<description>Here I go, breaking 800 rules and probably making enemies in the process. But speak I must (love talking like Yoda), so go here I.

RE: name in box...

I've been signing "communicatrix" to everything--EVERYTHING--since I grabbed the handle back in '04. Partly, it's b/c I was conflicted about my name (it belonged to Dad, not me) and partly b/c...well, it's f*cking cool. I like it. It works.

That said, I do think it's a little bizarre when people put "Furniture Refinisher" or "Used Car Salesman" in the box. But who am I to sit in judgment? I'm the communicatrix, for cryin' out loud.

RE: blurbage as identifier...

I confess, I cringe at these. Almost all of them. They get cheese-laden *fast*. And yet, I recognize the necessity of some answer to the dreaded (well, dreaded to me, anyway) "What do you do?"

So depending on the circumstances, I might say "I fart around on the Internet" (true), "I'm a graphic designer" (true), "Oh...a little of this, a little of that" (definitely true). I guess I suss out the situation and do what I feel is appropriate in the moment (and, let's face it, what I'm up for.)

I do have a brief mission statement which I've had for years, but only recently have begun voicing aloud, and only then b/c I feel that it might be helpful to people who are casting about for their own: "To be a joyful conduit of truth, beauty and love."

But am I gonna say that at a cocktail party? HELLS, NO!!!! Not unless it's herbal tea hour with the woowoo crowd, and even then, I'd think twice.

Thanks for posting this series, Barbara. It's a lovely service for you to provide.
