Link PR | 10 Strategies for Getting Inbound Links

Take an active approach to getting inbound links and watch your rankings rise. Here’s how . . .

1. Write great content - yes, this is a given. Mix up your style and try on content tangents to see what works.

2. Leave a comment at sites that use CommentLuv

3. Research who’s linking to who on Technorati and then make up a core group you want to connect with.

4. Enter contests or showcases that will post the list and watch as other bloggers pick it up - you should, too.

5. Submit sites that link to your site to social sites like Digg, Mixx and Stumbleupon.

6. Search Google for blogs that cover a topic you’re writing about and link to them.

7. Thank bloggers who link to you on twitter with a link to their site

8. Create a way to regularly invite bloggers to send links to you

9. Invite others to guest blog - they’ll promote you on their site and link back to you

10. Buy a domain name and redirect your post to the new URL ala www.press-release-guide.com

To give you an idea of how this blog gets inbound links, I pulled a few of my latest blog reactions on Technorati. Technorati assigns every blog an authority rating and a rank. The higher the rating, the more the authority.

How I got this link: Brad liked my post - I like his so I shared it with several social media sites.

How I got this link: this appears to be a site that takes content and reposts it without permission. While most bloggers are okay with being linked to, taking an entire post and copying it to make it look like it was meant to be there is not okay.

Barbara, What an amazing post. I don’t recall ever seeing such detailed examples of linking via social networking. I’m Stumbling this post immediately (which may be another way for you to get an inbound link!).

Brad Shorr’s last blog post..Content - Is There Anything New Under the Sun?

Hi Barbara, great list of things to do to generate links! One comment though: the first link is to a link love post of Brad Shorr that I happened to see a few days back, it’s just a link to your article among others, no malicious intent :)
Alina Popescu’s last blog post..Cell Phone Producers and Missed Opportunities

Thanks for this tip sheet. It answered all the questions I had about getting my blog noticed. Your blog will be one of my regular reads.
